Nickel plating is harder than brass and the cases require more effort in sizing.
If you using Nickel plated brass, special care must be taken to lubricate the cases prior to sizing them. To prevent the case neck from stretching, be sure to lubricate the case neck inside the case mouth. To straighten the case mouth, run the case part way into the sizer die and let the expander ball straighten the brass. With all new rifle brass, you should first straighten out the case and case mouth, then chamfer and debur the case mouth inside and out. I have since run 2000 rounds of 45ACP through it, and it is still perfectly polished, with no resistance on the upstroke at all. It's also 0.003" slimmer in diameter which I believe reduces friction slightly. My powder funnel is magically smooth now. I started with 400 grit sandpaper to polish the funnel and went to 800, 1000, 1500, and finished with 2000 grit. I removed the powder funnel and basically put it in a lathe. That is stupid and completely defeats the purpose of a progressive press, so I kept searching for a solution. I called Dillon and they said this was normal for new or really clean brass, and that I should clean the powder funnel every 25-35 rounds.
